Upcoming Legal Tech Webinars: Tips for Attorneys to Use Databases & iPads for Litigation

Cogent Legal offers webinars and live presentations about graphics and technology for litigation. This post announces webinars about case management databases and iPads for trial presentation.

iphone and ipadMorgan and I are hosting webinars on Wednesday, March 5, and Thursday, March 6, that we hope attorneys will find helpful for everyday practice and for trial.

The first is “Technology Tips for Using Databases to Understand, Develop and Control Your Case,” which I’m presenting for the Law Practice Management and Technology Section of the California State Bar. The other is “iPads and Trial Technology in Litigation and Trial Practice,” which Morgan is hosting here at Cogent Legal to launch a new series of webinars we’ll do in-house. Both are eligible for MCLE credit, and both will be archived and available to view afterward if you cannot make the date of the live presentations. This post will give you the info and links to register.

Using a Central Case Database

Setting up and using a database might sound daunting, but in fact, a central database can be invaluable for understanding, organizing and developing a case. In other words, it can make your job as an attorney a lot more manageable! I wrote about this topic in this recent post and will go more in depth during the webinar, focusing on how to use a favorite tool, CaseMap.

The webinar is Wednesday, March 5, from noon – 1 p.m. PST, and you must register in advance through this link. The recorded webinar will be available for you to access for up to three months, if you cannot be present during the live presentation. The California State Bar LPMT section is hosting this session, and they charge $55 for this webinar.

The image below is one slide I’ll show to illustrate some of the myriad inter-related issues and items involved in a hypothetical case, which a database like CaseMap can help you organize, track and understand “the big picture.”

Optimizing Your iPad for Law Practice and Litigation

There’s no doubt iPads are growing in popularity among attorneys. A recent survey of attorneys primarily at small firms found about 70 percent use an iPad. Last year’s ABA Tech Survey also showed continued growth in iPad and iPhone use among lawyers. If you have an iPad, are you going beyond personal use (for example, using it as an e-reader or to answer email) and using it to full advantage in your law practice? If not, this webinar can help.

Cogent Legal’s Morgan Smith will give very practical, hands-on advice about how to use your iPad with certain apps in court or in meetings for presentations, and how to use it every day to help manage your law practice. This free webinar is Thursday, March 6, from noon – 1 p.m. PST, and you can get more details and register through this link. This activity has been approved by the California State Bar for one hour of Continuing Legal Education credit.
